Track & Field compete at the Mt. SAC Relays
Diablo Valley College turned in a strong overall showing at the 2026 Mt. SAC Relays – Community College Division, highlighted by event wins, top-three finishes, and solid relay performances on both the men's and women's sides.
On the women's side, the standout performance came from Sydney Kane, who won the discus with a throw of 41.42m (135'11"). DVC also excelled in the 400 hurdles, where Stephanie Vojtenyi placed 2nd in 1:04.97 and Nyah Thornton finished 3rd in 1:07.18, giving the program two of the top three spots in the event. In the sprints, Sophia Gonzalez added a 12th-place finish in the 100m at 12.62, while Anaya Russell took 12th in the 100 hurdles in 16.87. The women's 4x100 relay team of Russell, Vojtenyi, Gonzalez, and Thornton placed 5th in 50.13, and Tiana Holmes contributed in the distance events with finishes in both the 800m (2:40.68) and 1500m (5:31.17).
On the men's side, DVC showed balance across sprints, middle distance, distance, hurdles, and relays. Deuce Carr led the way on the track with an 8th-place finish in the 100m in 10.72, while Paolo Morales matched that placing in the 5000m, running 16:02.46 for another 8th-place result. In the 400, Ryan Christy ran 49.94 for 13th, and Dominick Andrade added a 50.64. Luka Afonine clocked 2:01.45 in the 800m, and Dominic Cataldo posted 17:27.84 in the 5000m. Over the hurdles, La'Rico Tezeno finished 13th in the 110 hurdles in 16.02, and Mythias Fisher ran 57.78 in the 400 hurdles for 17th. In relay action, the men's 4x100 team of Dalen Lyons, Peyton Schlader, Jayden Butcher, and Junor Douglas placed 12th in 43.15, while the 4x400 quartet of Dominick Andrade, Luka Afonine, Mythias Fisher, and Ryan Christy delivered one of the best men's results of the day with an 8th-place finish in 3:20.82.
Overall, Diablo Valley's top performances came from the women's throws and hurdles groups, with Sydney Kane's discus title and the 2-3 finish in the women's 400 hurdles standing out as the program's headline results. The men added key points through Deuce Carr in the 100m, Paolo Morales in the 5000m, and a competitive 4x400 relay effort. Taken together, the meet showed DVC competing well across multiple event groups and producing several high-level finishes against a deep community college field.
