Diane Moore-Women’s Basketball | Diane Moore excelled as a guard/forward during her two seasons at Diablo Valley College. In her freshman year, she demonstrated an impressive performance by averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds per game, distinguishing herself as the sole California JC player in the 2010-11 season to achieve such notable statistics. Throughout her sophomore year, Diane maintained her high standards, averaging 20 points and 10 boards per game. Her exceptional achievements led to her earning second-team all-state (California JC) and first-team all-conference honors. Diane's proficiency on the basketball court extended beyond individual accomplishments. She was recognized as the Most Valuable Player in one tournament and secured positions on two other all-tournament teams during her freshman season. Her basketball career reached a pinnacle when she scored a career-high 37 points against Saddleback College. Following her successful tenure at Diablo Valley College, Diane transferred to the University of Hawaii-Manoa on a full-ride athletic scholarship. There, she achieved academic milestones, graduating with a Bachelor degree of Environmental Design in 2015 and attaining a Doctor of Architecture in 2018. Beyond her athletic and academic pursuits, Diane contributed to the WNBA team Seattle Storm as a Japanese-English interpreter for three seasons. Her ability to leverage both her basketball knowledge and linguistic skills underscored her versatility and dedication to her craft. Presently residing in Seattle, WA, Diane Moore has established herself as an architectural designer, showcasing her expertise and commitment to excellence in her professional endeavors.
1996-97 Men’s Basketball Team | The induction of the 1996-97 Men's Basketball Team into the DVC Hall of Fame marks a historic moment as they become the inaugural men’s basketball team to receive this prestigious honor. Revered by their head coach as one of the most tightly knit teams he has ever mentored, they showcased an unparalleled commitment to team defense, leading the state by holding opposing teams to an impressive average of 57.2 points per game throughout the entire season. Despite a bitter defeat in the state semifinals, the team's accomplishments were substantial, clinching both the conference championship and victories in three preseason tournaments. Their remarkable season concluded with an outstanding record of 32-6. Noteworthy is the fact that two key members of the team, Jason Williams and Will Levy, have already received individual induction into the DVC Hall of Fame, providing further testament to the exceptional caliber of athletes within this team. The enduring camaraderie among the members has persisted over the past 27 years, underscoring the lasting bonds forged within this extraordinary group.
James Costa-Head Coach - Men’s & Women’s Cross Country/Track and Field | Jim Costa is a distinguished figure in community college track & field and cross-country coaching, whose illustrious career spans over two decades of esteemed success. Jim commenced his coaching journey as the assistant track and field coach at DVC from 1977 to 1983, paving the way for his eventual ascent to the position of head track coach from 1984 to 1998. Simultaneously, he took on the role at DVC of head cross country coach from 1989 to 1998. Under his leadership, a combined total of nine men's and women's track teams clinched conference championships, solidifying his reputation as a coaching luminary. At the NorCal level, his track and field teams achieved significant success, securing second place three times. A testament to his coaching ability is the impressive roster of 19 men and 18 women who set DVC track and field school records under his guidance. His track and field coaching laurels extended to producing numerous conference, NorCal, and state champions, showcasing the profound impact he had on the development of his athletes. In the realm of cross country, Jim's tenure saw the men's and women's teams take the podium an impressive 13 times. The pinnacle of their achievements came in 1992, when the women's team emerged victorious at the NorCal Championships, followed by the men's team capturing the title in 1993. This outstanding feat earned Jim the title of 1993 5CTCA Cross Country Coach of the Year. Jim Costa's enduring contributions to the community college world of coaching were officially recognized in 2013 when he was inducted into the 5CTCA Hall of Fame. His legacy is characterized by a relentless commitment to excellence, nurturing champions, and shaping the trajectory of countless athletes.
2014 Women’s Swim and Dive Team | The 2014 DVC women's swim and dive team, an extraordinary assembly of athletes, left an indelible mark on the landscape of aquatic excellence at Diablo Valley College. Despite the tragic loss of teammate Lauren McCullough to cancer at the season's onset, this remarkable team emerged as CCCAA State Champions, underscoring their resilience and fortitude. Their exceptional display of strength, coupled with the achievement of a team GPA of 3.42—the highest in state swimming that year—exemplified their unwavering commitment both in and out of the pool. Highlighting the individual brilliance at the state championships were Co-Swimmers of the Meet, Allison Gargalikis, and Kelsey Leonard. Allison's stellar performance included three individual event wins, three meet records, and one pool record, while Kelsey secured three individual event wins and one meet record. The team's collective effort reached new heights in the 400 Medley Relay, setting a state meet record by an impressive four seconds, earning them the Performance of the Meet title. The records shattered by the team are a testament to their dominance, including meet records in the 400 Medley Relay, 200 Medley Relay, 50 Butterfly, 50 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke, and 100 Butterfly. Notably, every swimmer who qualified for the state meet contributed points to the team's state meet title. Securing a commendable 2nd place at the Big 8 Conference Meet, the team faced adversity without divers but triumphed as noted previously to win the CCCAA state title. Despite the challenges, Allison Gargalikis stood out as the State Athlete of the Year. Their exceptional achievements extended beyond the state level, with a total of nine swimmers earning All American honors. The team's legacy is a testament to their unyielding spirit, individual brilliance, and collective dedication to each other.
Richard Millington-Head Coach - Women’s Water Polo/Men’s & Women’s Swim and Dive | Rick Millington, a legend in the realm of aquatics whose coaching legacy spans decades of significant achievements with athletes he has mentored within the community college, USA Swimming and Water Polo arenas. As a Volunteer Assistant Coach at DVC under the guidance of Jack Flanagan from 1971 to 1975 and later as an Associate Coach from 1981 to 1985, Rick laid the foundation for his coaching expertise. His unwavering commitment to excellence became evident when he assumed the role as Head Coach for Women's Water Polo at DVC from 1997 to 2021, guiding the team to unprecedented success which includes an astounding 8 Conference Championships, 7 NorCal Championships, and 6 impressive 3rd-place finishes at the State level. His impact extended beyond victories, as reflected in the development of 54 All Americans and the receipt of multiple State Scholar Team Awards. Rick garnered recognition as the Conference Coach of the Year on 7 occasions, a testament to his leadership and strategic acumen. Equally remarkable is his 15-year tenure as the Head Coach for Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving, spanning from 1996 to 2021. The extensive list of accomplishments encompasses 13 Women's Conference Championships, 15 Men's Conference Championships, 3 Women's State Championships, 7 Men’s State Runner-Up finishes, and 4 Men's State Titles. The team's dual meet records of 94-8 for women and 100-4-1 for men serve as a testament to the enduring excellence he instilled. This outstanding track record goes beyond mere statistics, with the development of 168 Women and 220 Men All-Americans. Rick’s coaching philosophy also emphasized academic achievement, resulting in numerous State Scholar Team Awards. His expertise in coaching is further highlighted by an exceptional 27 Conference Coach of the Year titles and 8 State Coach of the Year honors. His journey as an athlete began as a distinguished Water Polo Player and Swimmer. In 1966, he earned the DVC Men's Water Polo MVP title while playing alongside fellow DVC Hall of Famers Tim White and Steve Heaston. As the Men's Water Polo Co-Captain in 1967 and a state swim meet qualifier, Rick’s know-how in the pool was undeniable. His academic journey led him to receive an associate degree in 1968 before transferring to Fresno State with a partial athletic scholarship. There, he continued to excel, playing water polo for two seasons and swimming for one. Rick Millington's enduring impact on aquatics, both as a coach and a distinguished athlete, has left an indelible mark on the DVC aquatics legacy. His remarkable journey is a testament to his solid dedication, strategic skill, and passion for fostering excellence in his athletes.
2009 Baseball Team | The 2009 Diablo Valley College baseball team, a force to be reckoned with that etched its name into the record books through a season marked by unprecedented success. This outstanding team not only secured a final four appearance but also broke the school's win record with an impressive 36 victories. Their season journey included securing the first-ever Big 8 Conference Championship and the first outright league championship since 1955, a testament to their dominance on the field. The roster boasted extraordinary talent, with three players—Tyson Edwards, Corey Conflenti, and David Buscovich—earning the prestigious distinction of 1st Team All-Conference. Additionally, Zack Boyd showcased his ability by securing a 2nd Team All-Conference spot. The coaching brilliance behind this remarkable season was duly acknowledged as Coach Mike Neu rightfully earned the coveted title of Coach of the Year. Beyond the on-field achievements, the team's impact extended to player development, with three members drafted into professional baseball and 14 others making successful transfers to four-year universities. The 2009 DVC baseball team's legacy is one of unparalleled success, skillful coaching, and a collective commitment to excellence.
