The Diablo Valley College Men's Basketball team finished 3rd in the Golden Gate Classic at City Colleege of San Francisco, December 1-3. This was the Vikings 3rd tournament of the season and are currently 6-3.
The Vikings started the tournament with a win over San Jose City College, 81-46. The Vikings led by 20 at half time and help the momentum heading into the 2nd half outscoring the Jags by 25 in the second half. The Vikings were led by Ben Wood who recorded 14 points, he was 5-10 fromt he floor with 4 three's. Wood also recorded 13 total rebounds, 10 of which were defensive, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Victor Mijas recorded 12 points, he was 5-10 from the floor with 2 three's, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. Luke Spiller finishhed with 12 points for the Vikings, he was 5-7 from the floor and finished the night with 9 total rebounds. Kenneth Pitts III also scored double digits for the Vikes with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Demarre Walker finished with 10 points, 2 three's and 6 assists.
The win over SJCC put the Vikings in their 2nd semifinal game this season. The Vikings were defeated by the Rams, 90-62. The Vikes trailed by 14 at the half and the Rams kept the pressure on outscoring the Vikes by 14 in the 2nd half as well. The Vikings only had one player in double digits, Brandynn Manning who finished with 12 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Ben Wood and Victor Mijas each hit 3 three's for the Vikes in the loss.
The Vikings faced Sequoias in the 3rd place game of the Golden Gate Classic, defeating the Giants 77-58. The Vikings were led by Brandynn Manning who scored 20 points, he was 8-11 from the floor with 2 three's 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Ben Wood scored 16 points for the Vikes, he was 6-9 from the floor and finished with 4 three's. He also recorded 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Demarre Walker finished the game with 15 points, he was 6-15 from the floor with 2 three's, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Vikings head to Saratoga next to compete in the West Valley Tournament, December 14-16.
