Vikings finish 2nd in Tony Costello Tip-Off

The Diablo Valley College Men's Basketball team opened up their season with a 2nd place finish at the Las Positas College Tony Costello Tip-Off Classic in Livermore. The Vikings opened the tournament with a 95-56 win vs. Simpson JV on Thursday. In this game, the Vikings had four players in double digits; Ben Wood led the team in scoring with 18 pts, with all 18 coming from behind the 3 point arch, Demarre Walker had 11 points (4-15 FGM-A & 2-10 3PM-A), Victor Mijas had 10 points (3-7 FMG-A & 2-5 3PM-A), and Steven Daily scored 11 points (4-5 FGM-A & 3PM-A). 

The Vikings narrowly defeated Columbia College on Friday in the semifinals 78-76 to advance to the championship game. The Vikings had three players in double digits; Ben Wood led the Vikings with 18 points (5-11 FGM-A, 2-6 3PM-A, & 6-8 FTM-A) and 12 rebounds (6 DREB & 6 OREB), Demarre Walker scored 13 points (5-13 FGM-A & 2-5 3PM-A), and Steven Daily finished with 12 points (6-12 FGM-A), 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. The win over the Claim Jumpers advanced the Vikings into the champioship game. 

Las Positas defeated the Vikings in the Championship game of the Tony Costello Tip-Off Classic by a score of 99-67. Las Positas had the lead early in the game and led 41-56 heading into half time. In the second half, the Hawks kept the momentum going, outscoring the Vikings by 17 in the second half as they cruised to victory in their own tournament. The DVC reserve, Brandynn Manning had a big game for the Green and White, scoring 16 points, (8-16 FGM-A). The Vikings also had two other players in double digits with Demarre Walker scoring 12 points and Ben Wood scoring 11. 

The Vikings travel to Shasta next week to compete in Shasta College's tournament November 17-19. Current Record: 2-1
