Vikings Come Up Short in Fourth-Quarter Rally, Fall 30–24 to San Mateo
No.4 Diablo Valley 24, No. 1 San Mateo 30
Diablo Valley battled to the end but fell just short in a 30–24 road loss to San Mateo. The Vikings controlled possession for nearly 50 minutes and outgained the Bulldogs 369–140 in total offense but were undone by turnovers and big special teams plays from San Mateo.
After a scoreless first quarter, Adrian Guzman opened the scoring with a 30-yard field goal early in the second. San Mateo quickly responded with a 1-yard touchdown pass from Luke Alexander to Quinton Togiai and a late field goal to take a 10–3 halftime lead.
The Vikings tied the game at 10 midway through the third quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Kalani McLeod to Khai Taylor. San Mateo answered immediately with a short rushing touchdown by Malakhi DeMoss, and extended the lead in the fourth with a Kai Hamilton touchdown grab and a 47-yard field goal from Dieter Kelly to make it 27–10.
Diablo Valley's defense and special teams rallied late — recovering a fumble for a touchdown to close within 10 — before Kelly hit another long field goal to put San Mateo up 30–17. McLeod and Taylor connected again in the final minute for a 9-yard touchdown, capping the scoring at 30–24.
McLeod finished 24-of-47 for 281 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 interceptions, while Ferrari Miller was his top target with 9 catches for 130 yards. Taylor added 4 receptions for 71 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensively, DVC forced one fumble and held San Mateo to just 2.9 yards per play, but the Bulldogs capitalized on field position and special teams to secure the win.
