APTOS, Calif. — Diablo Valley dropped a 4–1 decision on the road to Cabrillo on February 13 despite a strong effort on the mound from Calvin Johnson.
Johnson (2-1) went seven innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on 10 hits while striking out eight and throwing 67 strikes in 91 pitches. Louie Giles added a scoreless eighth inning in relief.
Offensively, the Vikings tallied six hits. Kenji Tello scored DVC's lone run in the fourth inning, and Jack Dress drove him in with an RBI single to left field. Dress finished 2-for-4 with the RBI, while Matthew Dashner and Niko Fesinmeyer each added a hit. Collin Bankerd contributed a pinch-hit single, and Anthony Capra recorded a stolen base as a pinch runner.
Diablo Valley turned a double play defensively but was hurt by one error that contributed to two unearned runs. The Vikings stranded nine runners on base in the loss.
MONTEREY, Calif. — Diablo Valley fell 3–1 on the road to Monterey Peninsula on February 14 in a tightly contested game dominated by pitching.
The Vikings were limited to just one hit but showed patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks. Cameron Valentine recorded DVC's lone hit of the afternoon, while Victor Valle scored the team's only run in the ninth inning. Nicholas Meadows drove in the run with a sacrifice fly to left field. Matthew Dashner added a stolen base.
Monterey Peninsula scored twice in the first inning and added an insurance run in the seventh. Diablo Valley pitching settled in after the opening frame. Teagan Gonzales (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in the first. Keegan Murdock tossed three scoreless innings in relief, striking out five, and Jackson Kolakoski worked the final four innings, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out five.
As a staff, the Vikings struck out 13 batters and allowed only one hit, but eight walks and hit batters proved costly in the loss.
