Combining an exceptional and passionate staff with a new state-of-the-art facility we strive to provide a Division 1 level of health care for our student-athletes. Our clinical sports medicine program is comprised of several components that support all aspects of the health and wellness of our student athletes.
Our clinical program is supported by the college’s academic program, that provides classroom and internship opportunities to prepare students for transfer into a variety of sport medicine and health professions including athletic training, physical therapy, nursing, paramedic and physician assistant. Athletic Training
The heart of our sports medicine program is our amazing staff of Athletic Trainers. Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who render services and treatment, in collaboration with a physician, as part of the health care team. Services provided by ATs include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergency care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.
In addition to having extensive experience treating community college athletes, our Athletic Trainers have had previous experience in all levels of athletics from high school and NCAA college sports to professional and Olympic programs.
Our staff works out of a new state-of-the-art facility centered in our Athletics campus, to provide exceptional care to our student-athletes with the help of Division 1 level technology and equipment.
Mental Health/Performance
In collaboration with Sport & Performance Psychology Department at the JFK School of Psychology and Social Sciences and the Diablo Valley College Counseling and Basic Needs Programs, we can provide wrap around services to support the on-field performance and address off the field mental health issues of our student athletes.
Utilizing several week-long “bootcamps” as well as team, small group and individual sessions we provide education and training to improve performance and enhance life skills, as well as address individual mental health needs for our student athletes.
Nutrition
In collaboration with the Diablo Valley College Nutrition Program, we provide nutrition education in large group settings by team to empower our athletes with the nutritional knowledge they need to excel in their sport and lead a healthier life after sports. We are also able to provide opportunities to meet with Sports Nutrition Interns in small groups and individual forums to address more specific concerns.
Strength and Conditioning
We have two strength and power training facilities that we utilize with our athletes to prevent injuries and improve performance. We generally offer sport specific training in group settings by team but can also provide small group and individual sessions to address an athlete’s individual areas of concern/weakness.
