SACRAMENTO -- DVC travelled to Sacramento to take part in the Beaver Relays at American River College. This was DVC's first full squad track meet with men and women fully represented.
In the first event of the afternoon, Francisco Hurtado, freshman from Pittsburg, posted a time of 54.81s in the 400m hurdles in his first ever collegiate track meet. His mark currently leads the Nor Cal region and is 3rd in the state. The mark also ranks 9th all-time in school history.
The 4x100m relay team of Nicholas Johnson, Jacob DeMaio, Eric Richard, and Frank Stephens placed 3rd overall with a time of 41.47s. That mark is good for 3rd in Nor Cal and 4th in the state.
Johnson, sophomore from Oakland, was impressive in the short sprints with times of 10.82s and 21.84s in the 100m and 200m dash. His mark of 10.82s is good for 5th in the Big 8 Conference. His mark of 21.84s ranks 3rd in the Big 8 Conference in the 200m. Johnson's 200m mark is good for 9th all-time in school history.
Antwuin Prowes, freshman from Richmond, ran a 49.18 in the 400m dash, good for 5th overall in the meet. The mark also ranks 9th all-time in school history.
Roger Blackburn, sophomore from Concord, ran a personal best of 15.18s in the 110m hurdles, good for 5th overall at the meet, and 6th in Nor Cal.
Richard, sophomore from Martinez, took a step away from his relay duties and placed 5th in the long jump with a mark of 21' 11.25". His long jump of 22' 11" from the Yuba 49er Invitational last week still remains the top mark in the Big 8 Conference.
Dakarea Pierson, sophomore from Pittsburg, joined Richard in the field with an impressive throw of 42' 11.75" in the shot put.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Johnson, Jerrick Bernstine, Tyrone Morgan, and Prowes closed the day's action, placing 3rd overall with a time of 3:15.27s, good for 3rd in Nor Cal, and 4th in the state.
Fiona Beitzel, freshman from Dougherty Valley, placed in the top ten in the javelin throw with a personal best of 93' 5".
Florence Carroll, sophmore from Las Lomas, also threw a personal best in the javelin throw with a 83' 11".
Danielle Monteiro from Las Lomas and Shyanne West from American Canyon took to the track and finished 4th and 5th in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:12.57 & 1:13.28, respectively.
