Bio
Kyle comes to DVC from Hercules High school where he was the head coach from 2009-2014. He served as an assistant on the Titans’ staff since 2007. In this time, the Titans qualified at least one athlete for the CIF state meet in all but one season. The Titians have accumulated multiple state final appearances in the sprints, relays, jumps and hurdle events. The 2007 women’s team was the CIF team runner up. This team was led by double state champion Jamesha Youngblood. She went on to star at the University of Oregon. The titans also produced 17 other track and field athletes who like Youngblood received scholarships to compete on the Div.1 and 2 levels.
As the head track and field coach, the Hercules girls won the Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League overall team title in 2009 and the boys won the overall ACCAL title in 2012. In Whitmore’s last two seasons, the Titans boys 1600-meter relay squad has finished in the top five in the CIF state championship finals, and were nationally ranked indoors and outdoors.
He was also the head cross country coach and the football team’s defensive coordinator for four seasons apiece. Outside of Hercules, Whitmore served as the men’s coach of the Flying Jaguars track club’s high school division. The Flying Jaguars track club houses track and field athletes spanning across the entire east bay.
Whitmore graduated from Pinole Valley High in 2002. He was not only laudable in track and field, but also received All-Bay Area 1st team honors as a football defensive back while receiving academic achievement honors in the classroom. Whitmore is also a former Contra Costa Comet, having participated in both football & track and field for the Fall 2002 and Spring 2003 semesters, respectively. In track, he was a Nor Cal meet 400 meter hurdle finalist. Whitmore transferred from Contra Costa with a 3.7 gpa, receiving a football scholarship to play for UC Davis in the Fall of 2004. He graduated from UC Davis with a B.A. in Communications in 2007. In August of 2015 Coach Whitmore earned his Master of Arts Degree from California Baptist University.
