Diablo Valley College Director of Athletics, Christine Worsley, announced today the hiring of Matt De Trane as the new Men’s Water Polo Coach. De Trane previously served as the Assistant Coach under former head coach, Zach Roberts.
De Trane, a native of the East Bay, grew up in Moraga where he attended Campolindo High School. As a senior was named first team All-DFAL and second team All-CIF NCS. He attended Diablo Valley College for two years then transferred to Pepperdine University to finish his collegiate career. De Trane led the DVC squad to a Big 8 League Championship. He was named Big 8 MVP both seasons, junior college All-American and was named to the all-state squad. As a two-time NCAA All-American he concluded Pepperdine career with 80 goals in 44 matches (1.8) to go along with 41 assists and 30 steals. De Trane went on to receive his Masters in Coaching and Administration from Concordia University.
De Trane played professionally in Montenegro and Italy as well as competed with the National Team during the 2013 World League Super Final in Russia, 2013 World Championships in Spain, and the 2017 World League Super Final in Russia.
De Trane has experience coaching up and down the state of California and says, “I am honored and excited to assume responsibility as the head coach for the DVC men's water polo program. The Program has had much success in the past and I look forward to continuing the success and development of the program.”
The Men’s Water Polo team has their first game of the season September 7th when they head to Saratoga to compete in the Nyquist Tournament.
